IRC or Infrared Coagulation is a painless, safe, and effective treatment for internal hemorrhoids. It is a non surgical office based procedure that doesn’t require anesthesia or any preparation by the patient. A small probe is inserted into the rectum and the blood vessels above the hemorrhoid are exposed to infrared light. This causes the hemorrhoid to shrink. The only side effect may be slight bleeding after the procedure. Most of the time after the procedure the patient can return to work or play without any restrictions.
A typical patient has three internal hemorrhoids. Usually each hemorrhoid is treated once or twice at weekly or biweekly intervals.
